There are tons of Hitler parodies out there on youtube.  Lots of them are excellent pieces of work, but most of them take a good idea and mess it up because they can't spell or edit worth s**t.  These are, by no means rules, just advice to take into consideration when developing a Hitler parody. Feel free to add some of your own advice that you think is important.

Hitler Parody Do's:

1)  Use correct spelling in subtitles - One of the main facets of a Hitler parody is to make your parody appear to be a credible translation.  A few spelling errors are forgivable, but I've seen some that are riddled with them.  This also extends to homonyms.  For those of you who dropped out of school, homonyms are words that sound exactly the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.  It's a huge pet peeve of mine to see some assclown use the words "there", "their", and "they're" interchangeably in their parody.

2) Match subtitle lengths to what the people say  - This again is in regards to making the parody appear to be a credible translation. Don't stuff a paragraph on your subtitles when the character is chirping something. For example, when Krebs says "Mein Fuhrer, Steiner...", you don't put down "My Fuhrer, I hate to tell you this but...".  It truly is an eyesore whenever I see something like this.

3)  Use swearing in moderation -  A lot of people, myself included, have the urge to make Hitler say every swear word listed in urban dictionary.  Swear words are the spice of Hitler parody videos. If you use too much it tastes like s**t. If you don't use any...it tastes like s**t.  The best time to use swearing is when Hitler goes off on his trademark Hitlerian outbursts.  Generally the more swearing there is the funnier the video gets, but don't have Hitler give a play by play account of a porn video.

Hitler Parody Don'ts:

1) Fading In/Out subtitles - A ton of these parodies do this and it breaks my balls so hard when I see it. And I know it's not because they think it looks cool, it's because they don't know how to set up subtitles using windows movie maker.

On WMM, go to Tools-->Titles and Credits-->Title on the selected clip-->Change the title animation. Then scroll up and select subtitles. This gets rid of that annoying fading effect.

2) Subtitles at the center of the screen - Another really huge ball-breaker of mine are subtitles that are right in the middle of the video.  This is also due to people not knowing how to set up subtitles because these centered subtitles fade in and out as well.  See above on how to alleviate this problem.

3) Big ass subtitle fonts - There are some who know how to set up the subtitles correctly, but use huge ass fonts. Go to "Change the text font and color". Now, click the small font button two times. That should be the appropriate size of the subtitle.

4) Color of subtitles - I see a lot of people use font colors other than white. Please just use white...ffs.

I have a question. The swearing is not what I do in parodies, because I would be in hot water with my family if I ever contributed swearing. Believe it or not, when I put in a word "F***" when my dad saw it, he was MAD with me.

Is it forgivable to not have any cussing in your parodies at all?

Truth be told, putting in "F***" instead of the actual word is just annoying; we know what the word is, so simply say it or don't. Since you are not going to use cursing, I recommend fake swear words. Think Monty Python French Guy:

"You don't frighten us, English Pig-Dogs!"

"Go boil your bottoms, you son of a silly person!"

"Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!"

And so on.

I did mean I almost put the actual F word. I just only censored it on this forum.

I remember seeing this and the "How to make a Hitler parody video" in a parody form. IIRC, the last scene in it features the Hitler Youth being criticized for using the wrong kind of subtitles. However, I can't find it anywhere. Did anyone upload it elsewhere?

What I think makes a good parody is something new. You can only use one clip so much before it gets boring. Try to stay away from reusing jokes. Come up with something that will suprise the viewer. If you're gonna make parodies you are gonna want to have fun with it, Not find it a chore.

Don't make a parody longer than 5 minutes unless you want a copyright strike.

If you have a parody idea, try to see if it has already been done. If you can't find your idea, go for it. If you find one, you can either drop the idea, or, if the parody is subpar, try to improve it, or try make something different out of the idea that doesn't copy the original.

Don't think spamming parodies will help with gaining loads of subs.

I agree with him. It's so messed up if they did that.

Sometimes, actual English subs are the best.
